As we made our way from Gros Morne to Deer Lake to points home, we stopped to admire two final aces that Katie had up her sleeve.
We set up breakfast one more time and lingered over coffee. Eventually we had to check out of our cabins and load up the vans to head south towards the airport, but not before our fabulous group surprised us with heartfelt thank yous and hugs.
Along the side of Hwy. 430, in a road cut within the Gros Morne National Park limits, we marveled at this ancient beauty of a trilobite:
Newfoundland and Labrador’s Department of Environment and Conservation estimates the fossils in this area to be about 458 to 468 million years old, preserved during the formation of the northernmost portion of the Appalachian Mountains.
In our next stop, Katie had a short walk planned for us so that we could stretch our legs before sitting in the airport / on a plane for hours. We were rewarded with this hidden waterfall:
It was growing late and we hurried back to the vans. We continued on to the Deer Lake Airport, sharing hugs one more time, and hopping on flights towards points south and west.
