Abbreviated Trip Report: September Killarney Canoe Trip

My fifth canoe trip of the season for Wild Women Expeditions.

September Killarney Canoe Trip:

Preparations

I drove up to Sudbury Tuesday night after I finished teaching at the college. On Wednesday morning I grocery shopped, organized food, and packed group gear, finishing up by 5:30pm. All ready to go to meet a group of 8 women the next morning!

Equipment

  • Canoes, paddles, PFDs, safety gear, maps
  • Tents, tarps, camp kitchen, toilet kit, expedition first aid kit
  • Food for 10 people for 4 days, water filtration + Aquatabs, waterproof barrels

  • Tent, fly, poles, stakes, and footprint
  • -10 degree Celsius sleeping bag, fleece liner, fleece-lined stuff sack (pillow)
  • Yellow foamie, Thermarest

  • Splash pants, rain jacket, fleece jacket, hiking boots, Neoprene gloves and socks
  • Buff, camp pants, PJs, a set of base layers, winter hat
  • Plus what I was wearing when I left (running capris, tech tee, rash guard, baseball cap, sunglasses, Tevas [closed toe])

New Route! We met our group of 8 women at the Bell Lake Access Point before setting out for a campsite on Three Mile Lake.

Distance: ~6 kms of paddling plus a 200m portage and a 745m portage
