I’ve decided to have a few microadventures in May.
They’re a great way to shake up the week. I drive towards the Ottawa Valley on Tuesday afternoons. I sleep outdoors. I teach on Wednesday afternoons. I drive back to Toronto feeling a little refreshed.
On Tuesday night I camped at the Paddler Co-op in Palmer Rapids and I had the whole place to myself. I listened to the peepers sing, the robins huff, and the occasional car drive by on Palmer Road. I made myself dinner and breakfast (give me all the coffee!). I wrote out my biweekly newsletter and a pretty solid blog post, both by hand all cozied up in my tent and by the light of my headlamp. And while I didn’t get a great night’s sleep through no fault of my serene surroundings, I still woke up a happy camper in the morning.
Here are a few photos from the co-op.

I look forward to discovering more places to camp in and around the Ottawa and Madawaska Valleys during this term. If you have any suggestions, shoot me an e-mail!
