Recap: The Wild Center
The girls ran up the walkway at the Wild Center, following the noise of the crowd, their young legs seemingly unaffected by our Mount Arab hike only an hour earlier. Their moms and I trudged behind them, dodging and weaving around other adults who had stopped to read the interpretive signs lining the railings.

Day 1: Pre-Trip Preparations in Ithaca
Day 1: Saturday, August 22, 2015 The bulk of our pre-trip preparations were done over the late spring and early summer via e-mail and spreadsheets (it’s me – of course there was a spreadsheet!). I drove down to Ithaca on Friday night to start the weekend of our adventures.
Day 2: Travel Day and Camp Set-Up
Date: Sunday, August 23, 2015 Weather: Sunny and calm. High of 79 degrees Farenheit. Distance: ~3 miles strolling around camp Hooray, travel day finally arrived! After months of talking about it, we were really headed out on a camping trip!
Day 3: Canoe Interludes
Date: Monday, August 24, 2015 Weather: Mix of sun and clouds, afternoon wind. High of 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Distance: ~4 miles We scouted the spot to rent canoes on Sunday night and with Monday afternoon’s forecast looking a little iffy, decided to make an early-ish start.
Day 4: Mount Arab and the Wild Center
Date: Tuesday, August 25, 2015 Weather: Mix of sun and clouds. High of 76 degrees Fahrenheit. Distance: ~4.5 miles Huzzah! The girls slept soundly overnight and the adults didn’t fare too badly either. Perfect start to our ‘wild’ land-based adventures planned for the day.
Day 5: Last Day in Camp
Date: Wednesday, August 26, 2015 Weather: Cloudy. High of 70 degrees Fahrenheit Distance: N/A Surviving one’s first proper camping trip requires pancakes for breakfast and that’s just what we whipped up before getting on the road back to Ithaca.
