Recap: Banff Mountain Film Festival – Ottawa
You get goosebumps when you hear its theme music. You know that voice – the one that comes deep from Richard Armstrong’s toes and says “Welcome to the Banff Mountain Film Festival.”

Review: MEC Spark UL 1+
In late spring I knew the summer of 2016 had the potential to be hot. I didn’t want to sweat through six canoe trips in my four-season TGV-2. So I started looking for a lightweight three-season that also wouldn’t take up a ton of space in my backpack once I got around to finally doingContinue reading “Review: MEC Spark UL 1+”
Book Review: Nature Cure
Or: Three Things You Need to Know about Richard Mabey’s Nature Cure I had grand plans of writing a New York Times-style book review for Richard Mabey’s memoir Nature Cure. Their moms and I trudged behind them, dodging and weaving around other adults who had stopped to read the interpretive signs lining the railings.
Anchor Brewing Company
While we were out in San Francisco visiting my sister, she booked a tour of the Anchor Brewing Company for us. The brewery offers two tours a day, one at 10 o’clock and one at 1 o’clock at its Potrero Hill location. Reservations are required. As we had 1 o’clock reservations, we made sure weContinue reading “Anchor Brewing Company”
Review: Untamed Antarctica
Is Antarctica on your bucket list? It wasn’t much of a blip on my radar screen. I’d glance at the pricey boat tours in adventure travel brochures and wonder how seasick the crossing would make me. It must have planted a seed though because the universe has been throwing some interesting tidbits my way. SixContinue reading “Review: Untamed Antarctica”
